Straight forward math for those who want to take their game to the next level!
Many players don’t trust the poker math in Texas No-Limit Hold'em. There are some fundamental underlying reasons for this mindset.
All players experience bad beats by other players. A bad beat (suck out) is when an opponent hits a card that has a low probability of hitting. The bigger the pot, the more intense and painful the experience. Over time this intensity of their pain from repeated suck out is seared into their memory. This causes many players to think that bad beats happen to them more often than they actually do. This is what is known as selective memory. It is also faulty logic since the probabilities don’t care what you, I or any other player thinks. The math is dependable and consistent. Selective memory of the intensity and pain of suck outs leads many players to mistrust the math. They convince themselves that depending on hope and luck is a better strategy. This can be a significant advantage for you. |
